ANDY PAVLOV

Andy Pavlov a.k.a. Andrija Pavlovic (1980) is a pianist, composer, producer, researcher, innovator and professor born in Belgrade (Yugoslavia), based in the Netherlands. He finished his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, Germany and PhD studies based on “Quantum Music” project at the Faculty of Music Arts Belgrade. He works as a professor of applied music at the Department of Scenic Design, Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia.

His music, which traverses styles and borders, reflects his deep-rooted statelessness. Taking inspiration from musicians such as Simeon Ten Holt, Erik Satie, John Cage, Thelonious Monk, Gurdjieff/De Hartmann and Ruben Gonzales Andy developed a style uniquely his own, which merges the sensitivity of classical music with minimalism, always following the bold desire to experiment, creating music for the heart and soul classical, neoclassical piano music, indie classical, jazz, electronic music.

His music is published by Universal Music, Donemus and Sweet Sensation label.

In 2004, Together with pianist and composer Sonja Loncar, he established piano duo LP Duo (www.lpduo.com), named one of the 8 best piano duos at the biggest world competition for two pianos, Miami Dranoff Two Piano Competition, in 2008. From 2004, LP Duo won 30 international prizes and performed over 300 concerts in Europe, the USA and Asia at renowned venues including: Carnegie Hall New York, Kennedy Center Washington, Royal Danish Opera and Theater Copenhagen, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Meguro Persimmon Hall Tokyo, NUS University Singapore and festivals: Sonar Barcelona, Music in PyeongChang, South Korea, Ars Electronica Linz. LP Duo released 12 albums and are the cofounders and presenters of the pioneering art & science project “Quantum Music” (www.quantummusic.org), with partners including Oxford University, Ars Electronica Linz and the Institute of Musicology SASA Belgrade.

Together with a group of engineers and quantum physicists, LP Duo invented a new musical instrument – the Duality Portable Hybrid Piano (https://www.lpduo.com/duality/).

He is composing music for theater shows, TV, film and audiovisual works

Me and My Love on The Road to Honduras

His first album “Me and My Love on The Road to Honduras – The Minutes after Infinity for Solo Piano” (Universal Music, 2020), was inspired by the depth and mystery of a period in his life when everything he thought he knew evaporated, and great love, a home and understanding of the self emerged from a fog.

This album is a Diary of a Great Love.

“The album is the author’s “Decameron” in just over ten days or his answer to Krzysztof Kieslowski and Zbigniew Preisner’s epic “Three Colors: Blue, White, Red”. In terms of sensibility, it is perhaps closest to the recent works (mainly applied music) of Max Richter, and above all to the soundtrack of the “Leftovers” series. With unexpected layers and homages to Preisner, Liszt, Satie… and under the strong influence of Slavic musical heritage.” Popdepresija

In Love with an Armenian Girl

The composition has a very special atmosphere. Imagine the streets of New York set somewhere in the West of Asia—a road movie unfolding amidst mystical Asian landscapes. It is written using the third modal scale (Phrygian scale), characteristic of Persian, Hindu, Middle Eastern, Turkish, and Balkan music. “In Love with an Armenian Girl” is dedicated to the beauty of all West Asian women and is also homage to the master, Georgi Gurdjieff.

The songs “Life Passes Slowly” and “Sweet Sensation” were created between Belgrade, Berlin, and Amsterdam, representing a leap forward in their creativity and sound. Lidija Andonov (vocals), Laslo Antal (synthesizers and guitar), and Andy Pavlov (synthesizer, guitar, bass guitar) create a unique magical soundtrack, like a runaway tribe that cannot find its place in today’s world and is constantly searching for its own equilibrium. In tracks of unusually long duration (7 and 8 minutes), the musicians seem to want to extend the moment in which they lead listeners through a newly established world and imaginary soundscapes. It feels as if, when the songs stop, life itself stops as well.
