SIXTH JUNE
Sixth June was formed in 2007 by visual artist Laslo Antal & actress Lidija Andonov. After a period of working and living in Belgrade, the band relocated to Berlin in 2010, releasing 7 albums for some of the finest alternative music labels in Europe, among them: the Italian label Mannequin Records, the Berlin based label aufnahme+wiedergabe, The state51 Conspiracy from London, Cleopatra Records from Lost Angeles and Young and Cold records from Augsburg. Lately they release their music through Sweet Sensation, a label that they founded in 2020 with Andy Pavlov.
Throughout the years Sixth June played at various clubs and festivals such as Berghain/Berlin, Exit Festival/Novi Sad, toured around Europe, Latin and South America.
Beside the music, in focus are the visual aspects of the band. The videos, sets, design, and photography are all made by the band members, giving a personal touch to their distinctive sound. Music videos and live projections are an essential part of the performance of Sixth June. Having two people in the band who are closely connected to film, theatre and video art makes not only the music, but the whole image of Sixth June recognisable. Berliner Zeitung characterizes their music as “sweet, cool, dark electropop”, while Vice refers to Sixth June’s music as “music for dreaming and the new beginnings”.
More info about the band:
Stay!
The latest release of the band recognisable for the catchy vocal hooks by Lidija, and the rich music production of Laslo. This album will take the listeners a step further into the depths of personal and interpersonal relationships in the apocalyptic world. Danceable, melancholic, optimistic, cheerful, joyful, sexy. Including one of their best songs to date “Dance with Me”
1984
The band moves forward into new territories. This album is a 42-minute composition that builds around a single musical phrase played on a fretless bass and which develops over the length of the entire piece. This conceptual album consists of four chapters that flow into one another, leading up to a cathartic, operatic ending. It was composed in a time of isolation and uncertainty. “Don’t look for anyone, I am the one”
Trust
Trust was released in 2020, the album’s promotional movie ‘Read all my dreams’ was made as film noire. Songs like: Negde Neko, In Dreams and Winter didn’t Come are from this album. The first time featuring fretless bass, in the song Drowning. Drowning is about voices in our head, the idea of going insane, losing control and dying. The video for this song was a tribute to the experimental film maker Maya Deren.
