Lidija Andonov & Andy Pavlov
Lidija Andonov (Sixth June) and Andy Pavlov came together with the idea to capture moments of life through music, poetry, and visual art (music videos filmed and directed by artist Laslo Antal), where they explore important existential questions and nurture beauty by allowing emotions to find a space for expression.
So far, they have recorded one album (“Mlad & Radostan”) with the renowned double bassist Greg Cohen, who has collaborated with musicians such as Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits, John Zorn, and David Byrne. An album a homage to Yugoslav pop music and authors from the 1980s, as well as two original singles, “Kuda idu svi” and “Šta nam treba.” They also collaborated on the EP release “Sixth June & Andy Pavlov – Nemirni (Music from Original TV Series Vol. 4),” which features two new songs with a special sensibility (“Sweet Sensation” and “Life passes slowly”). Together with Laslo Antal, they established record label called “Sweet Sensation.”
Šta nam treba
What We Need is a song that shines when “cloaked” in the guise of synthesizers and electronics, featuring melodic choral singing and a scream processed through a megaphone, crying out in search of meaning. An unexpected club hit, it emerges just as summer begins, making a splash for World Music Day 2024!
Lyrics:
Predugo smo čekali
vreme da se promeni
iznenadna pitanja
izvanredni momenti
Kad je došlo najbolje
izgubili smo se
sloboda je za slobodne
branićemo je
ref.
A šta, a šta, a šta nam treba
A šta nam stalno stvara nevolje
Kuda idu svi
Following their collaboration on the exceptional album Mlad & Radostan, an homage to Yugoslav music from the ’80s, Lidija Andonov (of Sixth June) and Andy Pavlov present their new single, “Kuda idu svi.”
The song is conceived as a “journey” through a person’s inner landscape, exploring the search for answers to the fundamental existential questions of good and evil in this sensitive social moment.
“Kuda idu svi” is also featured in the TV series Nemirni, directed by Darko Nikolic. The original music for the series is composed by Andy Pavlov, also known as Andrija Pavlovic.
Lyrics:
Kuda idu svi
Svi ti dobri ljudi
Kuda idu zli
Ko to zna da kaže
Ustvari ko to zna?
For M.
Mlad & Radostan
Homage to Yugoslav Music from the 80s and Beyond
The album Mlad i Radostan, is an homage to Yugoslav music from the 1980s and includes songs for voice, piano, and double bass from bands that marked this era: La Strada, U Škripcu, EKV, Vlada Divljan, Električni Orgazam, Darko Rundek, Videosex, Paraf, Zana, and Bajaga i Instruktori.
The song of the same name by the band La Strada—Mlad i Radostan—was the inspiration for the album’s title. The album features a significant contribution from the American double bassist Greg Cohen, who, in his illustrious career, has collaborated with musicians such as Laurie Anderson, Tom Waits, John Zorn, and David Byrne. The album was recorded by Andrej Mladenović at Down There Studio B.
“Our idea was to tell the story of the music, songs, and artists who began their careers in the 1980s in the now-defunct country of Yugoslavia. This is our way of paying homage to a musical civilization and the songs that marked our lives. When we started preparing the album, it naturally came to us to include some newer pieces from authors of that era. We wanted to embrace the past and build a bridge to the future. That’s why we added the suffix ‘Beyond’ (Homage to Yugoslav Music from the 80s and Beyond),” says Andy.
“We wanted to return to the songs that were very important to us during our youth and as we matured as artists. Working on these songs alone, and later with Greg, we rediscovered their strength and beauty. We realized how relevant they can still be today and how they possess qualities that we find lacking in today’s music,” stated Lidija.
